Will my current version of Drupal be secure?
Yes, you're fine for now. Drupal 7 and Drupal 8 are both going to be supported until November 2021. This is by design - to give you plenty of elbow room to plan your upgrade to Drupal 9 carefully.
What are the advantages of Drupal 9?
A criticism of Drupal in the past has been the pain experienced in upgrading it from one major version to the next. This is why most Drupal sites still run Drupal 7, even though Drupal 8 has been out for nearly 5 years. The Drupal community has learnt from this, and Drupal 9 is a small step up from Drupal 8 rather than a seismic shift. So it's evolution rather than revolution, and the Drupal 9 feature set is very similar to that of Drupal 8. In fact, the changes represent a code clean-up rather than a radical departure. That said, if you have custom code or not well-supported modules in use, they will probably need some attention before they run successfully on Drupal 9.
Is the upgrade likely to be a big job?
That depends. If you are running Drupal 7, the upgrade task will be significant. But Drupal 8 to Drupal 9 is much less of a step.
